For centuries women in South India have drawn kolams at their doorstep at dawn — quick chalk lines, small offerings to ants, a welcome for the day. The kolam is temporary. It is walked over by lunchtime. And still it is drawn tomorrow. That is the entire teaching.

Crochet, embroidery, weaving, painting on cloth — the old crafts of Indian homes were never fast. They accepted the pace of the hand. In a life that runs on notifications, choosing a slow craft is a quiet act of resistance.
